GeoTest Services, Inc. provides a comprehensive suite of services to assist our clients with their
project needs from design throughout construction completion. Services include geotechnical
engineering, environmental, special inspection, construction materials testing, and building science
services. Exceeding 31 years in business, GeoTest participates in some of the most interesting
development projects in our region. Our company maintains four offices and two accredited
construction material laboratories in Washington State.

GeoTest is seeking to fill a Geotechnical Technician position at our Tacoma, WA office. This position
provides support to the field testing and geotechnical staff and communicates effectively with project
managers and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support for project
completion. This is an entry level position is in our Geotechnical department and responsibilities and
duties may vary depending on season, workload, and the needs of the Company and our clients.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Drive to various project sites to pick up construction materials in accordance with applicable

standards (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.).
  • Coordinate with manager, mentor, and administrative staff to troubleshoot issues.
  • Perform field materials testing of soils, asphalt, and concrete on a variety of project sites.
  • Perform field work and reporting on geotechnical/geologic projects.
  • Perform inspections and testing on a variety of job sites including refinery clientele.
  • Generate timely reports for applicable testing categories.
  • Certification(s) shall be obtained and maintained, as appropriate for the work being performed.

Continuing certification/education is a requirement of the position. Demonstrated competence for
the test or activity will be conducted.

  • Maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications:
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalency. Degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or

related field, preferred.
  • Preferred certifications/qualifications include (GeoTest provides support to obtain certifications, if
necessary):
  • Nuclear Gauge Certification
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I Certification
  • Certified Erosion Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) Certification
  • ICC/WABO Special Inspector Certifications
  • Geologist in Training, Licensed Geologist, and/or Engineering Geologist
  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications is preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience in a construction-related field is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain access at refineries as directed. This will include obtaining a Transportation

Worker Authorization Card (TWIC) and enrollment and compliance in both Occupational Safety
Council of America (OSCA) and DISA Global Solutions. Refineries are a Drug Free Workplace and
require specific drug screening.

  • Strong organizational, computer, and math skills are required.
  • Clean driving record is required.
  • Ability to work outside, work independently, and be a self-starter.
  • Able to travel to construction project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain.
  • Effective oral communication skills are required. Must be able to effectively communicate test
results and observations with internal and external stakeholders in a timely fashion.
  • Effective written communication skills are required. Must be able to accurately document test

results and observations using a tablet or laptop in the field. Reports must be clear and concise,
while using proper grammar.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs from a standing, crouched, or kneeling position, repeatedly.
  • Carry up to 50 lbs in the form of sample bags, buckets, equipment, cylinders, or wheelbarrows.
  • Stand on a hard surface for 8 or more hours per day.
  • Sit or drive for 2 to 4 hours per day.
  • Lift equipment, buckets, or tools on uneven terrain periodically.
  • Walk and carry sample bags/buckets, tools on construction sites, gravel pits, open fields, and/or

uneven terrain periodically.
